European Travel

I have traveled to Europe 22 times in the last 20 years. My lectures include travel tips as well as cultural and historical context to what we see today. Below are some lecture descriptions. Please contact for details on any of my 15+ lectures.

Legendary London

London can be overwhelming on a first visit, with two thousand years of historic sites, museums, sports, and entertainment. This one-hour presentation covers highlights of two visits where we often felt like colonists coming back to our mother country. Come and join the experience!

Let’s Explore French Wine Regions

France has 17 different wine regions, each with unique wines, history, and a strong cultural identity. In this one-hour presentation we explore the sites and wines of Provence, Cote du Rhone, and Burgundy. The wines are excellent, and the residents are very welcoming.

Let’s Explore Greece

Most American know more about ancient Greece than modern Greece. This presentation will look at Athens, the Greek islands, and the rural Peloponnese area.Greece offers a warm southern welcome, many activities and modest crowds for much of the year

Normandy, D-Day Beaches & Brittany

Normandy was the epicenter in three wars: William the Conqueror’s invasion of England, Joan of Arc and the 100-year war, and D-Day in WW2. During this one-hour presentation, we look at historical events while visiting Rouen, Bayeux, D-Day beaches, and Mont St. Michel. We end with a short visit to Celtic Brittany.

Barcelona – Jewel of the Mediterranean

Over 19 million visitors a year come to Barcelona for its vibrant culture, architectural marvels, beautiful beaches, amazing food and much more. Besides reviewing what we saw on a recent visit, this one-hour presentation discusses how history and geography make the Catalan region unlike any other part of Spain.

Ireland in the 21st Century

Many Americans reminisce about Ireland as a magical island and most tours focus on that magic. However, over the past 50 years, Ireland has transformed from slow changing and largely rural culture to a fast paced, secular, and technologically advanced island. Gene Flynn takes us behind the scenes to understand how this occurred and the important role the United States played in this transformation. Gene will also take us to the west of Ireland, where remnants of the past rural culture can still be found.
